S-Video is a type of component video signal, because the luminance and chrominance signals are transmitted on separate wires. Although it is a high quality connection, this connection type cannot produce High Definition quality (pictures with more than 480 interlaced lines of video for NTSC or more than 576 lines of interlaced video for PAL).
